The YMC Diol-NP stationary phase is a versatile alternative to silica for normal phase separations. The bonded layer's-OH groups provide good selectivity without excessive retention, since hydrogen bonding with the Diol-NP layer is not as strong as one with the silanols on a bare silica surface.
Diol-NP columns also provide better reproducibility when compared with bare silica columns.
Like all YMC silica-based bonded phase, the Diol-NP phase starts with an underlying silica support of exceptional purity.
YMC manufacturing and quality assurance possession ensure that the silica has a very low metal content. The silica purity greatly reduces nonspecific sample adsorption. As a result, you can expect excellent sample recovery.
The high surface area of the underlying silica particle, together with the larger number of available sites for interaction of the 1, 2 dihydroxypropane ligands, results in good preparative loading.

This figure shows differences in selectivity of phenols when separated on Diol-NP and SIL under the same conditions. For these compounds, Diol columns provide longer retention time and better separation.
